MEDscienceTECH Moonshot Visionaries
MEDscienceTECH Visionaries is a unique two-week intensive program for high school students who have a solid background in robotics or computer science and who are looking to solve an advanced cutting-edge challenge. This deep tech immersive experience will expose students to working in small teams with role specialization and cross-collaboration as they design and build a working AI surgical robot. Students will spend part of their time at Harvard Medical School, Harvard’s School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, and medical technology companies, where they will work with various industry professionals. Students should be in grades 9-12 at the time of application, have the maturity to work effectively both solo and in small teams, and have proficiency with robotics or coding.

Experience the real-life excitement of diagnosing a complex medical condition in our high-tech simulation lab, treating STAN, our life-like interactive patient. Control a real surgical robot used for surgical training in a state-of-the-art surgical simulation center at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, STRATUS. Learn sophisticated medical concepts around oncology, pathology, and surgery, to understand some of the biggest healthcare problems that challenge doctors today. Learn the biodesign thinking process as you prototype hardware & AI solutions to complex healthcare problems.

Self-motivated student teams are tasked with building the best AI computer vision surgical robot, performing frequent product pitches to industry professionals, & incorporating their expert feedback to ultimately create a robot that performs the best in the operating room, and impresses the healthcare experts on the final day.

Fee includes scrubs and all program materials

Housing
HMS MEDscience Summer Programs are non-residential programs. Housing and travel are not included and are the responsibilities of families/guardians. Students must be accompanied at their local accommodations by parents/guardians or responsible adults for the duration of the program.
Eligibility
Students must be in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 at time of application, and have some experience with robotics or coding.
Alumni of HMS MEDscience programs, semester or summer, may only apply to programs that they have not completed.

MEDscienceClinical
Work a week-long shift in the MEDscience ‘Emergency Room’ at Harvard Medical School. Train in our state-of-the-art medical simulation emergency room to evaluate, diagnose and treat acutely ill patients in our immersive, one-week, full-day program. Learn and practice clinical skills like suturing, intubation, and inserting IV’s.

MEDscienceLAB
Discover how lab, research, and the clinical aspects of medicine are interconnected. Starting with the patient in our high-tech medical simulation lab, then working in our HMS research lab, learn how medical problems are diagnosed and solved by analyzing patient samples and conducting experiments. Gain practical hands-on skills that are necessary for employment in current clinical research laboratories.

MEDscienceLAB Forensics
As a member of the MEDscienceLAB Forensics Team, you will learn how scientists solve crimes. Hands-on investigative inquiry will lead to analysis of crime scene evidence in the laboratory. With your team, you will play the role of the forensic scientist and learn how critical thinking and collaboration are the key to a successful criminal investigation!

This exciting new medical exploration program will expose students to real-life skills across medicine and dentistry. Engage in hands-on learning by responding to real-life patient care treating simulated patients along with training in dental clinical skills and procedures. Gain valuable insights into clinical medicine and dentistry!
